Students Play Strings with Special Guest
Students at Alexandra Community School in Owen Sound had an exciting opportunity recently to learn from a world renowned musician.  Edwin Huizinga, a violinist based in Toronto who performs around the world, visited the Grade 6/7 and 7/8 music classes on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 as part of the SweetWater Music Festival’s Access Music Initiative.  A featured performer at past SweetWater Music Festival events, Huizinga conducted a pair of inspiring and engaging workshops that allowed the students to participate with a broad range of strings instruments, including violins and cellos, among others.  It was also a chance for students to learn about Huizinga’s fascinating professional career, along with his affinity for playing classical music.  That same evening, Huizinga offered another session at East Ridge Community School to students involved in the Youth Orchestra.  The workshops were yet another great example of the meaningful work of local organizations, such as the SweetWater Music Festival, to help support music education by broaden accessing to students throughout Bruce and Grey Counties.
