Name:  Heather Gardhouse

Current position:  Grade 2/3 French Immersion Teacher, Hepworth Central Public School

What Bluewater school(s) did you attend as a student?  Victoria Public School, Hillcrest Elementary School, West Hill Secondary School

What year did you graduate from Bluewater?  2002

Please provide a brief summary of the career pathways (e.g. post-secondary studies and subsequent employment) you pursued after graduating from Bluewater.

After graduating from West Hill Secondary School, I went on to study political science and history at Wilfrid Laurier University.  After that, I attended teachers college at the University of Wollongong in Australia.

What has been your greatest career achievement thus far?

My greatest career achievement will be seeing my first class (senior kindergarten) graduate from Hepworth this year.

How has your education in Bluewater prepared you for your career pathway?

I had some great teachers in both elementary and high school who influenced me in my decision to study political science and history, and provided me opportunities, such as volunteering in their classroom.  These experiences have shaped the type of teacher I have become.

Other comments:

I was not a strong student in school.  Many of my teachers instilled in me a sense that hard work would lead me to success.  The work ethic I developed through my years in Bluewater allowed me to be successful in my future studies, as well as in my own teaching career.
