Name:  Sara Morrow

Current position:  Principal, Hillcrest Central School

What Bluewater school(s) did you attend as a student?  Arran-Tara Elementary School, Saugeen District Secondary School.

What year did you graduate from Bluewater?  1997

Please provide a brief summary of the career pathways (e.g. post-secondary studies and subsequent employment) you pursued after graduating from Bluewater.

After graduating OAC at Saugeen District Secondary School, I went to the University of Waterloo for my Honours Bachelor of Science.  When my university career was coming to a close and I thought about my dream job, I realized that I needed to become a teacher.  I went to Queen's University in Kingston for my Bachelor of Education.  After graduating, I returned to Bluewater, where my family and my husband's family live, and began my teaching career at Hillcrest Elementary School in Owen Sound.  In Bluewater, there are many leadership positions available, no matter what your position is with the board.  The longer I taught, the more I saw the opportunities I had to lead, and that I was heading towards a position as an administrator.  I took more courses through Queen's University and the Ontario Principals' Council to become qualified to take the step into an administrator position.  I met my goals three years early, and am very glad I have had the opportunities to continue to challenge myself and grow as an educator.

What has been your greatest career achievement thus far?

My greatest achievement has been meeting the goals I set for myself to become qualified to be a principal, and then gaining the experience necessary to be successful in the role.

How has your education in Bluewater prepared you for your career pathway?

My Bluewater education prepared me for university.  I had a much easier transition than many of my peers because of the high standards of work ethic my Bluewater education instilled in me.
